Tasmanian Sea Canoeing Cub AGM (Fortescue Bay)

Don’t you hate those write-off weekends that you have to spend sitting around in meetings for some club or another?

Well this was one of this weekends … the Annual General Meeting of the Tasmanian Sea Canoeing Club and as both the outgoing and incoming Commodore I kind of had to attend (damn, I just realised that means I have to attend next year as well).

So whilst the rest of you were enjoying your weekends, I had to spend two days of sitting around in team building sessions …

Doing some over the horizon planning …

Helping club members navigate their way through the reefs and pitfalls that we all face …

Do notice there is a paddler inside all that white stuff …
Watching a mystery whale pass under our ‘meeting room’ … what? don’t you guys have whales come to  your meetings?

Notice the strange bow wave on the left hand side of the screen …

Reflecting on goals achieved (Hippolyte Rocks … 2 nautical miles offshore) …

Engaging with key stakeholders (in this case Mike being chased by a curious seal) …

A bit of shop talk …

Testing out the oppositions equipment (also notice the pedal bike out with the other kayakers) …

Catching up over afternoon tea with people we haven’t seen for awhile …

Checking in to our nights accommodation …

On the second day there were more team building exercises … helmets required.

But I guess at the end of it the important thing is that despite a ‘wasted’ weekend of work, work, work … we did come together as a club …

 and reached our goals …

Here’s to another great year ahead  …

Oh … and to the fact that sometimes ‘the boys club’ pays the price for their antics  … in this case a 13km/hr full on ram into the cliffs after being picked up by a big wave over a little kelp bed …

I had done almost exactly the same thing just moments before …

Time to go home and get some rest and relaxation after two days of hard work …

PS.  If you’re wondering, this weekends AGM was based at the Fortescue Bay Campground on the Tasman Peninsuala.  My first days paddle was out to Hippoloyte Rock, and the second was a rock gardening training session out to Cape Hauy and the candlestick.  However many others went off on other training and paddling trips that were put on offer.
Somewhere in between the days activities we did actually sit down (I think it was between mains and dessert on Saturday night) and actually do the meeting stuff before retiring to the campfire to get back to the more important business at hand.
Right, with that out of the way, I really do need to treat myself to a holiday.
