Little Things …

My dad appreciated and enjoyed the small things in life more than anyone else I knew.

You could go for a walk with him over a trail you’d have walked a hundred times before and he’d still point out a plethora of small things you’d never have noticed by yourself … like the way the ice formed on a berry …

Or a certain way a branch was bent on a tree and how “he was keeping an eye on it so one day he could make it into a walking stick“.

I spent a whole morning travelling over to the West Coast this morning because I wanted to take the time to stop and enjoy many of the things I so often skipped past in my ‘hectic’ life … like the sun rise through the mist …

I wanted to see the detail of the world we travel so briefly in a different way …

It was a way of being with him and letting him go.

Hopefully his appreciation of the here and now and the small things in life is something I’ll learn as age wisens me further.
